The Elimination of Tribes (6090)

Imagine 32 Cayuse teenagers in 1930, 16 gals and 16 guys starting families, 1 child each, 16 total, split 50/50 baby boys and girls.  Unbeknownst (this is fictional as only 1 full Cayuse person was alive in 1902), the gals did not know they had been sterilized after giving birth to their 1st child.  In 1945, 8 gals and 8 guys produced 8 babies, 4 boys and 4 girls who in 1960 did the same, sterilizations without consent continuing, leaving 2 Cayuse on this Planet to have their 1 child in 1975 (but happy and not tired with 9 new ponies per HEW). All this was tough to keep track of: California and Oregon herded people of different languages together (Oregon has 4 reservations west of the Cascades), but in Washington there are 29 recognized (Federal) reservations, only 4 east of the Cascades. Extinction does not need to kill off a plant or animal species, just interrupt its ability to reproduce.  Bonhoeffer Gardens was created to highlight the ongoing disappearance of ~150 (of 900) Vancouver Floristic Region’s native plants while providing 45-minute coursework (posts) on 2 subjects no longer taught: Native Botany and Local Indigenous and Pioneer History.  (State Code’s require teachers to include material of the Reservation closest to their school.) Should we, like Robert Redford, cleverly hide this story in a murder mystery Western, Dark Winds, now airing, well worth viewing (also found in Yellowstone)? Does this explain the reason for declining small tribes’ populations? Or, best not to mention (as we have been told regarding use of herbicides, clear-cutting, and cattle grazing on BLM and DNR lands, fossil fuel subsidies, Hanford, Puget Sound becoming a Dead Sea …)?
