For the Suislaw a difference with Pioneers related to disease. Theirs was vulnerable, for the Pioneers vaccines. Once with a large population, the Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians has but 521 members today. Over the years many died of Smallpox, Malaria and Smallpox. Their language family was (an isolate), that spoken is/was Suislaw. They live today with other Suislaw, Coos, and Lower Coquille descendants. While the History Farm, behind a visible fence, celebrates the Pioneers of 120 years ago and the Explorers of 240 years ago … the Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians prospered here for 1,000s of years. By design, Suislaw are not included in mainstream America, their diversity not easily appreciated. Most are now surrounded by an invisible economic fence; look for them on 7043 acres, on the Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Reservation, by/in Oregon Coast near Florence with rugged coast, sand dunes & river.

500,000 in 1960 to 1,900,000  humans.  All that is needed is for man not to kill them.  Government and tribes differ as to definition, some reure ½, while other’s only 1/32nd .  The US (BIA) typically requires 1/4th degree of Native American blood for recognition as a tribal member.
