Town of Pilchuck (5210)

The Town of Pilchuck was once the Farm’s closest “urban center.”  A single house remains (moved by the Tree Farm that now owns the land), but it’s a “gone town,” that was once a ghost town.  Photos attest, in the summers Cascadia Floristic Region streams once held far more water than today, not because they had more rainfall, but because there is less upstream soil to retain rainy months’ waters. (Rainfall and temperatures are both increasing, we are becoming more tropical.)  It would take 5,000 years to restore Pilchuck Creek’s soil that has swept downstream; arial maps around Stanwood attest (once a deep-water seaport). The 1914 Town of Pilchuck’s photo is an example, 4 miles to the East of the Farm.  The old photo shows a Big-Leaf Maple in full summer leaf and in the top of the photo, Pilchuck Creek with 100x more water than seen during the summer months today. The 1984-2022-time lapse URL below shows how Cascadia’s logged forests are stripped every 40 years through clear cutting, grinding, poisoning, burning, and planting of a single species with massive soil loss. (3x now for the area around the old Town.)  How long it will be until the Cascades and Olympics are a barren as the once cedar lush Lebanon Mountain(s) of the Mediterranean?
