Cougars

Cougars are the largest wild member of the cat family found on the Pacific Rim.  They are carnivores and their range is from the high mountains to southern California beaches (this writer has seen them in Laguna Beach).  Their range of travel may include an area of 200 miles and their frequent kills of deer are buried in scented and disguised piles.  A Salt Lake City hunters’ luncheon group reported a kill rate of 200 deer/year/ mature male cougar … that was decided “not to be reported.”  They are a dangerous animal when sick/starving or trapped; hikers and hunters must use due care.
