Swedish artists: Studio Glass Art Golden Age’s fire was ignited at the Pilchuck Glass School in 1972, four miles NE of the History Farm. The first 20 years found the “melding” of cultures’ skills and knowledge; the 2nd the “melting” of glass: teaching students these evolving skills. The cultures contributing to create the Studio Glass Movement included the Swedish, championed by Bertil and Ulrica Hydman-Vallien: evidenced by the work of Ann Wåhlström (1979), Ann (Warff) Wolff (1900 and (1900). Sweden’s special skills (contribution) related to Casting and Flameworking. This was before U-Tube and cell phones. Artists and students came together in a total emersion environment, blending the knowledge of different countries. The Glass School mirrored the Living History Farm’s History, accepting diversity and inclusion while building a new and beautiful future with people coming together, sharing and caring.
