To the east of the Gardens hidden in the trees is an old salmon smoking/drying fireplace. The stream that once ran beside it is gone. The stream (Freeborn Church Creek) hosted 4 of the 5 types of native salmon: Coho, King, Chum, Pink, and Sockeye. The former 2 require ~14 months in an ever-running stream before migrating to the sea, the next 2 migrate to brackish sea/fresh water within 45 days, the Sockeye need 14 months in a lake.
