Aspens are identified by round (some say, see below), alternate, and simple leaves with green above and paler lower surfaces – easily moved by the wind.

Their leaves’ margins (edges) are described as “serrate.”  Excerpt at the right taken from the 1951 “Trees of Washington” manual … nothing much has changed re. tree margins since that time, although some disagree as to the description of the leaf’s shape.
