2.7 miles to the NE of the Gardens is the Pilchuck Glass School, the cradle from which the Studio Glass Art Movement exploded in the 70’s. Much like the University of California that leads with 120 Nobel Laureates and the NY Yankees with 46 Hall of 
Famer, “PGS” leads in alumni who have gone on to successful independent glass art careers. “Pilchuck is a facility that doesn’t produce products but producers” (page 253, Tina Oldnow’s A Glass School). The Reserve displays work of over 100 of these artists: 32 in the Garden kiosks, 42 on pedestals in the waters, 31 for summer exhibition in the Preschool’s building with many more to be collected for both it and the summer Sophie’s Herbarium.
